Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal's springtime romance has ended. They just recently broke up. It's totally and completely over.

Witherspoon, 31, and Ryan Phillippe, 32, who confirmed their split in October after seven years of marriage, have two children: daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3. The actress started dating Gyllenhaal, 26, her costar in the upcoming CIA thriller Rendition, in the spring.

Although they were careful to avoid the spotlight, they were spotted March 23 dining with two other couples at L.A.'s Il Sole and "being playful," an observer said at the time.

Although the pair didn't have much screen time together while filming Rendition for eight weeks in Morocco, during a reshoot in L.A., "Jake went and reintroduced himself to Reese,"

From there, said a friend of Witherspoon's, "Things slowly progressed, but it was never something she thought would happen from the start. She just kind of developed this little crush over time."

Her MVP

Eva Longoria plants a winning kiss on her personal MVP – fiancĂ© Tony Parker – after his team, the San Antonio Spurs, swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in game 4 of the NBA finals on Thursday. Following the 83-82 game, Parker was named MVP.

With her third child due this summer, Julia Roberts takes it easy after lunching with a pal in Venice Beach on Thursday.

They must share the same hairstylist! Heidi Klum and her mini-me, 3-year-old Leni, have a bang-up good time during a mommy-daughter luncheon at Manhattan's Bar Pitti on Thursday.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Children who received antibiotics as babies have a higher risk of developing asthma by age 7, Canadian researchers said on Monday.

Antibiotics are commonly prescribed to children under age 1 for a host of reasons, most often for lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia or upper respiratory tract infections like ear and sinus infections.

Anita Kozyrskyj and colleagues at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and McGill University in Montreal studied antibiotic use in 13,116 children from birth to age 7.

Respiratory symptoms early on can be a sign of future asthma. To control for that, they sorted out infants who got antibiotics for non-respiratory tract infections, such as impetigo or urinary infections.

Of those, the risk for asthma before age 7 doubled compared to babies who received no antibiotics before age 1, according to the study, which appeared in the journal CHEST.

The researchers found that babies who were exposed early to antibiotics and who did not have a dog in the home before their first birthday were also at higher risk for asthma by age 7.

They said the presence of a dog likely increases the infant's exposure to germs, which can help kick-start the baby's immune system.

Asthma is an inflammation of the airways that makes breathing difficult. Symptoms can include wheezing, shortness or breath, coughing and chest tightness.

Among men with symptoms of heart disease, those who are obese tend to live longer than their normal-weight counterparts, a new study suggests.

Researchers found that among nearly 6,900 male veterans assessed for symptoms of heart disease, those who were obese were less likely to die over the next 7.5 years compared with normal-weight men.

Past research has linked obesity to longer survival among people with heart failure, a chronic condition in which the heart muscle is too weak to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. Some studies also suggest that obese patients fare better following heart bypass surgery.

Now the new findings, published in The American Journal of Medicine, suggest that this so-called "obesity paradox" extends to other heart disease patients as well.

The study does not, however, mean that obesity is a health boon, stress Dr. Paul McAuley and his colleagues at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System in California. Obesity is linked to a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses.

A lifetime of obesity might have different effects on longevity, they speculate.

It's also not clear that obesity, per se, confers a survival advantage in heart disease. One recent study found that the obesity paradox might be explained by doctors' tendency to treat obese heart disease patients more aggressively.

The current findings are based on a follow-up of 6,876 men who were referred for exercise stress testing due to possible heart disease symptoms. Over an average of 7.5 years, 23 percent of the men died.

After the researchers accounted for patients' fitness levels on the exercise test, as well as heart risk factors, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, they found that obese men were 35 percent less likely to die during the study period than were normal-weight men.

Because the study group consisted of older men with heart disease symptoms, the findings may not be broadly relevant, McAuley and his colleagues point out. It's not known, for example, whether in a group of initially healthy people, obese individuals would tend to live longer.

More studies, the researchers conclude, are needed to fully understand the reasons for the obesity paradox.

Well it looks like Jessica Simpson is finally over John Mayer, and is letting everyone know it. According to Life Style Extra, she's been telling all her friends that she's "totally done" with Mayer, and their relationship wasn't healthy.

"She was telling friends, 'We were so different, we were fighting so much. I'm really happy to be out of that relationship. This time, it's totally done.'"

It is nice to see her so happy. It's also nice to see her so busty. Very nice, actually.

The speculation is over: After a controversial season, Isaiah Washington will not be returning to Grey's Anatomy, his rep and ABC Television Studio have confirmed.

Howard Bragman, Washington's publicist, says Washington's option was not renewed, and released this statement from the actor: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more."

Bragman did not elaborate on the statement, a reference to the 1976 film Network.

The cast was notified Thursday night of the final decision, which, says a source close to the situation, was a long time coming. In the end, the source says, Washington's behavior made him a liability.

Rumors ran rampant following the season finale – during which Washington's character, Dr. Preston Burke, broke up with his fiancĂ©e, Christina Yang (Sandra Oh), and moved out of their apartment – that Washington would not be returning.

Spears, who went to Mexico on Thursday and returned to Los Angeles on Sunday, was photographed over the weekend in Mexico wearing a turquoise-and-white sarong with her blonde hair extensions in a messy ponytail.

The weekend away comes just days after she posted a message on her Web site, saying she was at "rock bottom" when she went to rehab earlier this year and thanking fans for their support. "I love you for still loving me," she wrote.

Spears, who has been recording a new album, also recently performed several shows in Los Angeles, Miami and Las Vegas in recent weeks.

The 6-foot-tall former boxer and construction worker has shown up in ads for Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier, but he may be best known for a British commercial he starred in for Levi's (see the YouTube clip below), in which he plays a drowned fisherman with three mermaids desperately after him and his jeans.

Sculfor and Aniston were first spotted out together over Memorial Day weekend, when they had an intimate dinner at Santa Monica's One Pico restaurant in the Shutters Hotel. The pair slipped into the beachfront eatery with Sculfor gently rubbing Aniston's back as they waited for a table.

Single since she split from Vince Vaughn last year after more than a year together, Aniston, 38, has taken her time getting back on the dating scene. Sculfor, meanwhile, formerly dated Lisa Snowdon (yes, George Clooney's ex) for two years.

When it comes to relationships, Sculfor, who now lives in Los Angeles and is under contract with New York Model Management, once told Britain's the Mirror: "It's hard keeping a girlfriend in this business – you end up conducting your relationship on the phone."

Some eye-popping pictures of Lindsay Lohan and Vanessa Minnillo posing provocatively with knives have made their way to the Internet.

The photos (posted by celeb photo agency x17) were apparently taken in June 2006 and show Lohan, 20, holding a knife to Minnillo's neck, then pointing the blade into her own mouth.

Minnillo, 26 – Nick Lachey's girlfriend – is seen pulling down Lohan's tank top and pointing a knife toward her bared chest.

In another shot, Lohan makes an obscene gesture, flashing the offending digit and displaying chipped nail polish.

It's not known what prompted the pair's photo session. The pair's rep didn't respond for comment.

Take note, readers. If there is going to be one hot new star this summer, it's going to be Megan Fox from the Transformers movie. Unless you are blind, it's not hard to see why. If you are blind, sorry about that.

Now, I have no idea if Megan Fox is a particularly good actress, but somehow, I don't think people will mind when the choice of on-screen visuals include either Megan Fox in skimpy outfits, or giant robots kicking each other's metal asses, or both.

I can't believe I have to wait another month for this damn movie to come out.

Oh happy day! Paris Hilton is going back to jail! I've been having a really crappy day, but suddenly I feel much better. Paris left the court room screaming and crying, and as you can see in the pictures below, she cried all the way back to her house in the Hollywood Hills. TMZ is reporting that Paris has been ordered to serve out the remainder of her sentence, but will receive credit for time served. Not time served at home, though.

Paris will be appealing the judgement, but I doubt she'll get anywhere with it. Then again, you never know. All in all, though, I think the weekend is going to be pretty good after all...

So you might want to take this one with a big old shaker of salt, but a former Hollywood publicist is saying that Lindsay Lohan is a Lesbian. According to Jonathan Jaxson, aka JJ, a former publicist turned blogger, Lindsay Lohan is dating her DJ friend, Samantha Ronson. Which, if true, would make Lindsay Lohan a Lesbian, at least until she outgrows this phase.

Yes, it is true. At least from all my sources. I have been part of 5 cover stories for the National Enquirer regarding Lindsay Lohan. She actually has always been quite open. I would love to name all the young Hollywood she has slept with, but I will keep that for the 'book.' Maybe she was tired of the boys and that is why she decided to spice it up with BFF Samantha Ronson. Here she gets a boy and a girl packaged all into one. Now I would have no bad things to say about either if Samantha wasn't deeply involved in alcohol and drugs. Not the best influence for a rehabbed Lindsay Lohan.

Katie Holmes is having so much fun with her (very polite!) 1-year-old daughter Suri, she's ready for more kids.

Asked by Entertainment Tonight if she wants to expand her brood, Holmes, 28, replied: "Yes, definitely." (Her interview with ET airs Monday.)

Holmes and husband Tom Cruise, 44, have spent the year since Suri was born largely out of the spotlight, and Holmes says of their time as a family, "We're having the best time, it's so amazing."

Now, Holmes is back to work, filming the comedy Mad Money with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah in Shreveport, La., where she's made a tradition of treating the cast and crew to snow cones, pizza and cupcakes.

Back at home in L.A. with Cruise and his children Isabella, 14, and Conner, 12 (with ex-wife Nicole Kidman), the mood is similarly festive: "We have so many kids in our house, there's always this wonderful chatter and the great noise of kids."

Jennifer Aniston's been single since her October split from Vince Vaughn – but she may have a new man in her life.

The former Friends star, 38, spent Memorial Day weekend getting cozy with a handsome mystery man with dirty-blond hair.

Although his identity remains in question, one thing's for sure: During a romantic dinner at Santa Monica's One Pico restaurant in the Shutters Hotel on Saturday, he had the actress's undivided attention.

At 8 p.m. the pair slipped into the beachfront eatery with Aniston's man gently rubbing her back as they waited for a table.

For the next three hours the duo talked by candlelight over a bottle of San Pellegrino, leaning in close and, at one point, even holding hands across the table. (Her rep had no comment on the dinner date.)

Still, it's not as if Aniston needs a man to be happy. She seemed content to fly solo the next day at a local beach bash, palling around with neighbors Courteney Cox, David Arquette and their daughter Coco. Later, back at the Cox-Arquette abode, Aniston mingled with about a dozen guests while her pooch Dolly barked at the holiday commotion.
