The New York Yankees have placed outfielder Hideki Matsui on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, Major League Baseball said on its Web site on Sunday.
Matsui suffered the injury during Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.
"When you play baseball, these things happen," Matsui told mlb.com through an interpreter. "You just can't help it. I look forward to just getting back as soon as possible."
