Actress and singer Lea Salonga showcased Filipino talent once more on opening night of Broadway musical "Les Miserables" in Manhattan, New York. Salonga first performed in the musical in 1993, playing the character of the street waif Eponine. This time around, she takes on the role of Fantine, a young mother forced into prostitution because of poverty.
No stranger to Broadway, Salonga launched her international theatrical career in 1991 when she played the lead character Kim in the musical "Miss Saigon." Salonga even won a Tony Award, Broadway's most coveted prize, for playing the tragic Saigon prostitute who falls in love and has a son with an American soldier during the Vietnam War.
The Broadway revival of Les Miserables kicks off a national tour that features Salonga with Filipino American actors and Broadway first-timers Ali Ewoldt and Adam Jacobs.
